Simple Pleasures

I remember when I was younger, one of the things that I used to love to do was lay out in the grass and make pictures out of the cloud formations during the day or count the stars at night.  I was even given a star named after me, for a birthday gift one year.  Then, as I got older, these types of things went to the back burner as life and responsibilities began to take precedence and soon, I forgot all about looking up.

These last few years as I have been working to unclutter my life, the magic that the sky held has become more and more of a priority for me.  Taking time out of the chaos of life, the responsibilities and the “to do” lists and just enjoying the simple pleasures of what is around us.  There is always going to be things we feel that we need to get done and your list of things to do is never going to end.  Raise your hand if you have ever stated that once you complete X, Y and Z you will take that much needed break.  But when X, Y and Z are complete, a new list has taken it’s place.

Enjoying the simple pleasures in life is a form of self-care.  So many people think that self-care equals a trip to the spa, that long awaited vacation, treating yourself to that yummy dessert, etc.  But self-care is something you should participate in every single day…not as a reward for a job well done.  So I urge you to look around you and do something just for you, every single day.  It could be something as simple as making pictures out of the clouds, smelling the fresh cut flowers from your garden or sitting down and just looking out your window and daydreaming.  Allow yourself to be a kid again and you may notice that some of the stress of everyday life, may not be quite as stressful as you thought.

I would love to hear what your simple pleasures are.  Enter in the comments below and tell me one small thing you are willing to commit to do everyday in July.
